Putting work before your health can have serious consequences. We tend to think that presenteeism is &quot;all good.&quot; But that&#039;s far from the truth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you&#039;re sick, it&#039;s sometimes better not to work, because productivity drops, working relationships suffer, and the spread of illness can multiply the number of sick employees. It&#039;s better to take a few days off from a cold, for example, than to have to be absent for a whole week because it has developed into a sinus infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presenteeism and burnout<br>Ultimately, the main risk remains burnout, this particular form of depression caused by professional exhaustion. The inability to take time off work, even when one is too ill to perform it properly, is a very significant risk factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the solutions to presenteeism?<br>If companies were more aware of the risks associated with presenteeism, they could discourage this behavior among their employees.
