An invisible, odorless, and non-irritating gas, carbon monoxide (CO) is a leading cause of accidental death in Morocco. Each year, numerous cases of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in the home are recorded. Some survivors may suffer lifelong consequences.
Its presence in the air results from the malfunction – or inappropriate use – of a combustion appliance: wood, coal, gas or oil boilers, water heaters, fireplace inserts, stoves, auxiliary heaters, wood, coal or gas cookers, automobile engines, petrol or oil generators, brazier-type devices…
Certain symptoms should raise concern: headaches, nausea, vomiting, mental confusion, fatigue… There are also precautions to take to limit any risk of CO emissions:
Have your heating and hot water production systems, as well as your flue pipes, checked.
Ventilate for at least ten minutes a day, even when it's cold, and do not obstruct the air inlets and outlets of your home.,
It is essential to strictly follow the operating instructions for combustion appliances and never operate auxiliary heaters continuously.,
