Gallstones are a scourge that particularly affects women and overweight people, but also and especially seniors.

Gallstones: sudden and continuous pain in the pit of the stomach
The pain caused by gallstones is felt in the epigastric region. The epigastric region is the upper area of the abdomen, between the sternum and the navel. This intense pain can also radiate below the diaphragm and into the right shoulder, sometimes making it difficult to breathe. A gallstone attack is a continuous, intense pain that can last for nearly two hours and should not be confused with a stomach ulcer, which causes cramping pain.

Gallbladder calculation
The presence of gallstones is not always a problem. However, in the event of a gallstone attack or intense pain, it is important to consult your doctor promptly. Complications can arise: a gallstone can obstruct the common bile duct, the tube that connects the duodenum to the gallbladder, and cause an infection or even a risk of sepsis. In cases of nausea, vomiting, and high fever (over 39°C/102°F), you should seek emergency medical attention.

Gallstones and absence of symptoms
In eight out of ten cases, the presence of gallstones—small crystals made primarily of cholesterol—causes no symptoms. If there is no pain or complications, then the presence of gallstones is not a problem.
